4B20.1 Convection Currents

Info

A rectangular glass tube is heated on one side while a few drops of food coloring are added at the top, showing convection around the tube.

Setup Instructions

1. Fill the glass tube with water so that the top portion of the tube is full.

2. Clamp the tube to the stand and ignite the Bunsen burner.

3. Place the Bunsen burner under the free side of the tube and then immediately add a couple drops of food coloring to the water.
